Winding up this discussion:
Topic 1: Do you think our government could become like that in V for Vendetta? Why or why not? If yes, how might it come about?
Topic 2: Now think about Anthem. What could happen to make our society like that in Rand's novel? Is this realistic? Which future is more likely, that of V or Anthem?

Topic 1: I don't think that our government could become as centralized as in V for Vendetta. Sure, laws and regulations have been enacted that limit the rights and privileges of citizens, but not to the extent of a dictatorship. Of course, there could always be a small possibility that our government could sink deeper and deeper into its influence over Americans. Aside from it all, the thought of a military power or any centralized leadership having control over a nation is a horrifying and (for me) unrealistic probability.
ReplyDeleteTopic 2: Well, if a society like that in Anthem could be a possiblilty in the future, then the government had better pick up its pace in ruling each and every person's life! I mean things could become alot worse in our society: people could become monitored while using a phone booth, one may be required to show I.D. when attempting to buy a loaf of bread, or perhaps we may be commanded to all wear kilts to work! Alright, so these points I just listed are light-hearted, but I just don't feel that our society is going to revert itself back to a primitive state as in Anthem.I am almost certain that the majority of people do not feel that the wax candle is the GREATEST invetion mankind could have ever fathomed! Furthermore, our world is far too advanced to succumb to some mass intelligence depletion. If anything, it has a greater chance of becoming more like V for Vendetta's potrayed society. A world in which people are known simply by a label and have their rights decided for them is more of an exaggeration than a reality. Rand's novel harps on the meaning of embracing indivduality and not letting one's inner thoughts "die" or become part of the majority.

ReplyDeleteNo their is no way our government should be like the one in the V moive. Our nation is really taking a huge down fall already, so with the government wanting to gain control want ever happen in my opinion.

I think sometime later on in future think our society would end up like Anthem. So many think are taking place right know in the society that is not being control would lead up to people selecting job for us and being on side instead of equal, but who knows only time will tell.
Topic 1. I dont believe our government in the United States could end up like in the movie V for Vendetta however other countries could. Our country is ruled by the people so we would never let it end up like that as long as we have control. Other countries that are under complete government control such as a dictatorship or a monarch have the chance to.
ReplyDeleteTopic 2. I believe our society could perhaps end up like Anthem only if we let it. If our obsessive quest for advanced technology takes over and we let go of our human characteristics it could be so. Our society would have to be so advanced that we are beginning to be ran by computers. I dont think that this future is likely but it could if our foolish selves let it. I think the future of V for Vendetta is much more likely to happen.
ReplyDeleteI think if we keep in silence that our President wants the Government to take control of our society. I belive that if it keep going like it is right now that we will not be able to have the freedoms that we have now. They are chipping them away bit by bit. Eventually we will not be able to worship the way that we want to. So, I would agree that if something is not done our society will be set up similar to the movie. I hope not because I want my kids and my grandkids to have the freedoms that I do.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Christians today will stand up against the Goverment and their plans to make us turn into a Goverment nations. This nations was founded on Christianty and we should end up on a Christianty nation. Without standing up to what we beleive in the Governemnt will make the nation end up like the book Anthem and our freedom will be taken away.
