Topic 2 Post:
ReplyDeleteI am not sure that I would characterize TV shows as an example of literature, however TV shows do contain literary techniques such as irony and foreshadowing. The uses of these techniques is relatively the same as in a story, but the source in which they are delivered is very different. Watching a suspense movie on television or at the theater is not the same as reading a startling tale from Poe. Literature is widely associated with written text, but other forms of drama do share similarities with literature.
Topic 1 Post:
ReplyDeleteI would certainly agree that learning about literary techniques has given a greater appreciation and understanding of literature. I enjoy reading poetry and short stories so much more now! I am quicker to find evidence of foreshadowing and I scrutinize the characters. One never knows when an unreliable narrator may be lurking!
Topic 1 Post:
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say that learning literary techniques has made me appreciate literature much more. I've never really enjoyed reading poetry, or for that matter I've never understood poetry that well until now. The way the book broke it down line by line helped me understand and appreciate poetry so much more.
Topic 2 Post:
ReplyDeleteI do not characterize TV shows and movies as literature. Literature is something that has to be read and pictured with your own mind, not shown to you through a movie or TV show.

ReplyDeleteTopic 1- I would agree that learning the parts of the Elements that make up literature has helped me understand literature better. In the past when I read a story or poetry I have to read it twice in order to understand what the Author is trying to get across, but leaning the differnt types of element make it easier to pull the information out of the story the first time that I read the story or poetry.
Post 2-I would characterize T.V. shows and movies as a part of literature because a lot of movies and shows are based off of books and literature. They are put together to portray us the real physical image of every word that the Author is tying to get acorss to his audience.
Topic 1- This weeks study has helped me understand it more because It has given me the perspective of how truly brilliant good literature works are. The way good authors write their works with such clarity deserves respect. The studying of this week helps me better understand hard readings that I would usually have to reread two or three times.
ReplyDeleteTopic 2- In Movies and T.V. shows, the scripts are usually written by gifted literature personel. Without a good written script that brings humor, drama and seriuosness, Movies and T.V. would not be what they are today. If I wrote a script for a Movie or T.V. it would be terrible. I do consider these two as Literature.
ReplyDeleteTopic One: This has helped me appreciate and understand literature more. I did not realize that there were so many "elements" involved in creating a story. No matter the length of the story, most of the elements of literature are involved in creating that story. The writers take ample time to think and process their ideas before creating a story with those ideas. I appreciate and admire the creativity of the authors of stories, and their patience. I am sure it takes a lot of hard work and determination to create such masterful pieces of work.
ReplyDeleteTopic Two: I would definitely define TV shows and movies as literature. They have all the "elements of literature". Movies and television shows have plot, characters, setting(s), point of view and theme. The characters and plot are probably more elaborate than most literary works, but they are still literature nonetheless. They are just elaborate and extensive forms of literature.
ReplyDeleteTopic One: The different elements of literature have always amused me while reading a story. However, I have learned to appreciate readings that are more difficult to understand that just ignoring books or passages that seem to take to much effort or thought.
ReplyDeleteTopic Two: I think it would depend on the particular tv show or movie if you could define it as literature. Some of the reality shows that are on television now are simply made for ratings and people act in certain ways just for money and are not truly themselves and I would not define this as literature. However, television shows and movies that have an intelligent background and an overall theme for the thought process of that particular presentation I think should be considered literature.
ReplyDeleteTV show today are not even based upon Literature. It's all about getting the money and who can get rich quick. To me I perfer not to look at TV shows they are only their for people entertainment, not to teach about english
ReplyDeleteBy studying different types of literatue in a way has made understand and better yet appreciate the works of learning literature .
